Hi, my name is Adeel. I’m an Associate Professor of Legal Studies at New York University Abu Dhabi and a Senior Research Affiliate at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg. I hold two state examinations in German Law, where I was admitted to the Frankfurt bar, and a Master’s and PhD from the University of Cambridge, where I subsequently qualified as a Solicitor of England and Wales.

Before coming to NYU, I was an Assistant Professor of Legal and Political Theory at Leiden University. I also clerked at the Court of Appeal in Frankfurt, worked for an international law firm, and advised post-conflict countries on constitutional and administrative reforms.

My research focuses on legal history, legal theory, constitutional law, Islamic law, international law, and jurisprudence.
